One of the biggest problems in these quarantine days when we have to stay in our homes is to be able to improve without losing our motivation. In this article, patika.dev, which facilitates this process, and I mention my experiences here.

Wait, what are the Patika and Front-end challenges?

Patika is a platform with free training to prepare for the roles that Turkey and the world’s best technology companies seek. The content of each path consists of lessons prepared by highly professional trainers with all the information necessary to professionalize in a field. The Front-end challenge is an optional option if you want to complete this process with a community, not by yourself, I definitely recommend that you participate.

My Experiences

While I was checking my mailbox one day, I noticed that I received an e-mail from the Patika.dev team. It was written that I was accepted for the 1st Frontend challenge. I immediately joined the discord server created for the challenge and the 5-week marathon started to like that.

If you examine the frontend challenge path, you will see that it consists of 8 basic chapters. In the first two weeks, I had to complete the part up to JavaScript very quickly and I did exactly that. Of course, in the meantime, I developed very good projects.

In the next 3 weeks, I finished the JavaScript and React parts. These two were really difficult parts compared to the other sections, but I’m very lucky that there were always mentors on the discord server who answered my questions. In addition, we continued to improve without losing my motivation by doing co-training sessions two days a week.

As someone who has taken pieces of training from platforms such as, Udemy Coursera and watched so many tutorials on YouTube, I will talk about how I gained so much knowledge and talent during this challenge that I could not gain there.

What makes Patika different from other platforms

I think you have received training from Udemy at least once, the instructors and educational content here are very nice, but there is an issue here which is we cannot test our knowledge at the end of the parts. If you are watching educational videos, you are facing a similar problem on YouTube.

Although Coursera is trying to solve this problem relatively, it may not be very efficient due to the high density of the students inside. On the contrary, the Patika tests what you have learned at the end of that chapter with the end-of-chapter questions included in each chapter.

In addition, there is more than one homework in each section and you can find the opportunity to test what you learned immediately by completing these assignments. The most beautiful of this homework is that nobody expects you to build a project from zero, when you complete certain tasks, the homework is completed.

While you are examining this homework, you will learn how the projects prepared by different people look like I think this is a big opportunity. You are also preparing for the tasks that will await you when you start a real job.

Some Tips

Get rid of Tutorial Hell

Of course, there is nothing as normal as watching a video when you are a beginner If we don’t pay attention, sometimes people can find them watching videos that last from hours to days. Preventing this problem is very important for your development.

You can start learning by reading the document instead of learning by watching. This will be the first step and the next step is to learn by experiment, which is definitely the most accurate learning method. For software, the best way to do this is to immediately develop projects with new technologies you have learned, new languages, or new libraries.

You’re trying to build something. Something great. Something that matters.

Join a Community

Nobody wants to go alone while walking a road. At this point, it will help you and it will be great to have people around you who will walk on the same road as you and even have walked on these roads before.

While completing each section of each path, doing two-day-a-week work sessions on a discord server with people trying to complete the same process with me has given me more than I expected.

You are not only on the trail, some companies want to add new people to their teams. During the 1st frontend challenge, we met with the employers in the software industry and we discussed the most curious questions.

Conclusion

I can say a small summary for this challenge, where I gained great new talents and friendships and so much more. I am very grateful to the Patika team.

That’s all for now, see you at the next one 👋
